Is Blackrock taking a page from the Blackstone family album?

Purchase Licensing Rights NEW YORK, Jan 13 (Reuters Breakingviews) - BlackRock (BLK.N) is taking a page from the Blackstone (BX.N) family album. The investing powerhouse led by Larry Fink detailed its tough 2022 on Friday, with one bright spot from an area of business where its original private equity backer also has expanded.

Who owns Blackstone Financial?

At first, it was part of Blackstone Financial, according to Blackstone founder and CEO Steve Schwarzman. When Larry Fink decided to break his company out from under Blackstone’s name, he and Schwarzman came up with the name “BlackRock” with tongue firmly in cheek. BlackRock is the biggest investment manager in the world.

Should you buy Blackrock vs Blackstone?

Mr Fink’s achievement is in the same range as that of acclaimed entrepreneurs such as Reed Hastings at Netflix or Elon Musk at Tesla. BlackRock is valued on 25 times profits, versus 11 for Blackstone, suggesting that investors prefer its simple structure and think it will grow faster. The final test is power.
